Crockett Garden Falls

Hike or kayak to this secret waterfall

**update: after the last freeze of 2022, the falls collapsed.

The first time I visited this beautiful waterfall (which is more like a grotto than a waterfall), it was on foot from Cedar Breaks Park. The trail itself is called “Crockett Garden Falls. With the trail being 7.6 miles out and back, you’ll want to pick a time of the year that’s not too hot or bring plenty of water and take breaks to jump into the lake to cool off.

After that hiking trip, we decided to explore by water and, by accident, found we could kayak (or paddleboard) up to the waterfall in a much shorter time. Keep in mind that the water will generally be lower than it is in these pictures. There’s only been one time that I’ve been able to paddle right up to the falls. The natural spring is always flowing, and you just may need to walk a bit from the lake to get to the falls.

To kayak to the falls, you’ll head to Russell park, and the best place to get in is the boat landing next to the swim beach. After you get your kayaks or paddleboards in, you’ll need to park at the restrooms at the top of the boat landing. You’ll also need to purchase a vehicle day pass ($5), easily accessible through their website. They also have a QR code on a sign next to the parking spots.

The trail is accessible year-round and the water is always cold! Make sure to check the website for any weather closures. On their website, you can also see rules & cancellations, ratings, cell service, fees, and make reservations.

The sunrises and sunsets are always stunning!

About the author

Hey, y’all my name is Kassandra and I’m a mama to 4, road-trip/hiking obsessed, herbal medicine enthusiast who specializes in nothing (well, I am a hairstylist so I do specialize in hair lol) but is interested in everything.

Most of all, planning, taking and sharing travel/road trip ideas. Encouraging folks to do the “I wish I could do that” thing. One of my favorite messages to get is “I saw your post and tried it”.

So I keep sharing. When I’m not traveling, I sate my wanderlust by cooking, planning more trips, working on my Airbnb, converting a bus to an RV, designing products (multi-passionate entrepreneur here), and regaling past adventures to share with y’all!
