Johnson City Lights Spectacular

The magic of lights at Christmas is undeniable; transport yourself to a classic hallmark-worthy experience with these lights in Johnson City, Texas.

“Imagine a light display with over a million lights. And it's so big, NASA reported seeing it from the International Space Station!”

Tis’ the season, and one of my favorite things is to drive around and see all the beautiful twinkle lights! So imagine my excitement to hear of the “twinkliest town in Texas.”

Johnson City boasts more than 1.3 million LED bulbs lighting up the town. Along with the lights, they offer carriage rides, a parade, tractor-pulled hayrides, and the grinch even makes an appearance. You can find all the dates and times for all the extras on their official website.

When we ventured that way (1hr 30 min from Round Rock), we decided to make a day of it and first hike Pedernales State Park.

The park is stunning!

We finished hiking, changed, and headed to Johnson City for dinner and the lights. From Pedernales, it’s about a 15 min drive to town. We searched for places to eat and found a spot that looked like what we were craving. There was a slight wait, so we put our names on the list, walked around, and found a BBQ place that wasn’t quite as busy. I picked a flight and a small bbq platter to nibble on until our table was ready.

Just as we finished our order, we received the text that our table was ready. So even if you have to wait, there’s plenty to walk around and enjoy!

The lights will turn on Friday, November 25, at 6 p.m. and shine from 6 p.m. to Midnight every night through Monday, January 8.

Johnson City Spectacular is definitely worth the drive to experience!

About the author

Hey, y’all my name is Kassandra and I’m a mama to 4, road-trip/hiking obsessed, herbal medicine enthusiast who specializes in nothing (well, I am a hairstylist so I do specialize in hair lol) but is interested in everything.

Most of all, planning, taking and sharing travel/road trip ideas. Encouraging folks to do the “I wish I could do that” thing. One of my favorite messages to get is “I saw your post and tried it”.

So I keep sharing. When I’m not traveling, I sate my wanderlust by cooking, planning more trips, working on my Airbnb, converting a bus to an RV, designing products (multi-passionate entrepreneur here), and regaling past adventures to share with y’all!
